THURSDAY, MARCH 16

Nostalgia and memories are a great thing, especially when it comes to trivia about times past! Silver Harbor Brewing is hosting an All Things 2000’s themed Trivia Night at 7:00p, you can come solo or with a group!

Rye so serious? It’s time to have fun! Come along for Journeyman Distillery’s Cocktail Tour: All Things Rye. Starting at 5:30p and running through 7:00p, learn about the history of rye and the process behind making rye. You’ll even get to enjoy samples of popular cocktails!

Check out the next generation of talented artists as the Box Factory for the Arts hosts their Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony for Elementary School Art Show. Starting at 6:00p, and ending at 8:00p, take time to appreciate the gallery presented.

2023 February Fun in SWMI

 Not even cold weather can stop Southwest Michigan from bringing the fun! Check out the variety of events happening throughout the month of February.

 

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Nature is beautiful no matter the time of year, and Sarett Nature Center knows that. February 19-26, they are holding Maple Sugar 101 for the family. Learn how to identify maple trees and how to get syrup! Better yet, each group gets to take home a quart of finished syrup. 

Calling all builders! Silver Beach Carousel is hosting a Builders Bash. All creative minds 5-18 years of age are encouraged to showcase their unique LEGO creations. The Builders Bash will be showcased at the carousel from March 1 to April 14. But, submissions end on February 20. 

Art is everywhere…even in soap! Forever Clean Soap Works is hosting Basic Soap Making Classes throughout February. Visit their website for sign-ups, and let your artistic side fly in the cleanest way possible. 

If you can handle the heat, get over to Water Street Glassworks. Throughout winter and spring, they are hosting various courses teaching you how to make glass masterpieces. 

 

EAT + DRINK

Love is in the air—self-love included! Bring your loved one, or just your lovely self, to Lazy Ballerina Winery on February 14 for a Cookie Decorating Class! Sip on some wine, decorate some cookies and celebrate your Valentine's Day in style. 

Relaxation is at the tip of your fingers thanks to the YMCA of Greater Michiana. Partnering with The Livery, stop by the YMCA on February 19 from 12:30p-1:30p for Yoga On Tap. While doing the lotus pose, participants also get to sip on delightful brews—non-alcoholic options available!

There’s no longer a need to go on vacation because Sister Lakes Brewing Company is bringing the Alps to you. Enjoy a five-course meal inspired by the French Alps on February 21 from 5:30p-8:00p. Alongside that, enjoy tasty brews that compliment the cuisine. Seating is limited, so purchase tickets in advance on their website. Bon appetit! 

Find your new favorite wine at the St. Joe Wine Shoppe! Every Sunday, they open three new bottles of wine, all different styles, during Wine Sample Sundays from 1:00p-5:00p! 

Get your fill on delicious oysters at Silver Harbor Brewing. February 23 at 4:30p, come on down for fresh oysters, specialty sauces and live shucking!

Time flies when you’re having amazing food, and 221 Main knows that. Celebrating their 10-year anniversary, check out their special deals and unique menu items on their website. Join the celebration with them while also enjoying delicious cuisine. 

Tabor Hill Winery understands the importance of date night. To showcase that, they’re featuring a special Table For Two deal on Fridays. You and one other person can enjoy two entrees with soup or salad for only 50 dollars. Sip some wine, and have a great time! 

 

LIVE PERFORMANCES

You may remember the twenty-first night of September, but you don’t want to miss the memorable Winter Delights event at The Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College. Featuring Shining Star: A Tribute to Earth, Wind, and Fire, the music starts at 8:00p on February 25, with pre-show drink and chocolate sessions at 6:00p. Make sure to come by to witness the event the community adores. 

Local musical talent isn’t far away. The Livery has live music on weekends throughout February. Check out their website for an event calendar, and enjoy some great tunes with equally great food and brew. 

Music isn’t the only performance going on in Southwest Michigan this February. Presented by the Journeyman Distillery, join comedians Casey Curran and Gerrit Elzinga as they put on their show, Comedy On The Rocks. On February 23 at 8:00p, come down to Journeyman for this event. Seating is limited. 

Who let the cat out of the box about the open-mic night? It might’ve been the Box Factory for the Arts as they host their Out Of The Box: Open Mic Night on March 1. Going from 7:00p-9:00p, come by the view singing, dancing, comedy and other talents!

Join us February 3-5 for the 2023 Ice Fest sponsored by Silver Beach Pizza to celebrate the winter season! It’s a weekend that brings frosty fun to downtown St. Joe. Enjoy professional Ice Carving Competitions, a Scavenger Hunt, Ice Interactives and more!

 

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3

Ice carvers begin revving their chainsaws for the Professional Individual Carving Competition, presented by Caffe Tosi, on Friday at 5:00p. Along Pleasant Street blocks of ice will be transformed into all sorts of awesome. The carvers will finish their icy creations at 8:00p.

Only a couple more days left to enter to win a Maytag Pro Pet Washer & Dryer! St. Joe Today (SJT) hosts a raffle from December 3, 2022 - February 6, 2023. Raffle tickets are just $5/ticket and are available for purchase at the SJT Welcome Center (301 State Street, St. Joseph, MI 49085). See an SJT staff member for more details on how to enter. At 8:00p, guests are in for a treat with a downtown Fire & Ice Tower sponsored by Tru by Hilton. To make this happen, a large tower of ice is packed with firewood. We light it, and it becomes a unique site for all - a breathtaking bonfire (a little bit of ice and fire magic). 

All weekend long, Ice Fest attendees can explore downtown with a Scavenger Hunt. Start the search by picking up a map from the St. Joe Today Welcome Center, located at 301 State Street! The Scavenger Hunt is fun for all ages and has its rewards too - turn in the form at the end for a chance to win a St. Joe Today Gift Certificate good at participating St. Joe Today member locations. 

While you’re downtown, stroll Light up the Bluff (now through February 15) in Lake Bluff Park! This local park is transformed into a winter wonderland, featuring 1 million holiday lights. Grab a hot chocolate and continue your stroll through downtown St. Joe to take in all of the winter lights! 

The Market hosts an Ice Fest Celebration all weekend long on the East side of Main Street. St. Joe Community Taproom will feature fun specials and extended hours! Swing; stock up on snacks with The Cheese Lady; eat a delicious meal from Dad’s Farm & Cafe and Nola Roux; enjoy breakfast with Frozen’s Elsa at The Culinary Cottage; warm up with hot beverage from Infusco Coffee and The Tea Annex; sip some delicious wines with the St. Joe Wine Shoppe; and bundle up with scarves and accessories from Wild Ginger Flowers & Gifts.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4

Ice teams assemble! The Professional Team Carving Competition begins at 7:30a downtown St. Joe will come alive with icy fun. This carving and creating will go on until 4:00p and involves epic eight blocks of ice for each sculpture. It's awesome to watch the progress of the teams throughout the day.

Challenge your friends and family to the Frozen Fish Toss, sponsored by The Livery; Frosty Tic-Tac-Toe, sponsored by SWMI Brew Tours; Ice Bowling, sponsored by Storage of America; Ice Skee Ball, sponsored by BOSS Services; Hole in One Putt Putt Ice Mini Golf, sponsored by KitchenAid Senior PGA! These interactives will be located along State Street between (Broad and Pleasant) and are open from 11:00a-4:00p. Family fun can be found throughout Ice Fest weekend. John Dudley, a professional magician, will visit several downtown locations and offer free shows. This Magic Tour begins in downtown St. Joseph on the corner of State and Pleasant Streets at 1:00p, followed by the Silver Beach Center at 2:30p and 4:00p.

Watermark Brewing hosts the 2023 SWMI Polar Plunge at 10:00a! Brave the cold to raise funds and support the Special Olympics Michigan athletes and programs. 


SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5

An oversized Ice Throne, sponsored by NOBO, is a great place to capture the moment – find it at the corner of Pleasant and State Streets all weekend long. Be sure to get a photo and share it with us on social media using #meetmeinstjoseph.

If cold conditions remain through the weekend, Sunday offers a great opportunity to enjoy downtown St. Joe and all the sculptures created during the festival. Many stores and restaurants will be open offering the perfect place to warm up while enjoying the icy art.

2023 Winter Warm Up Weekend: January 27-29

The winter doesn’t slow things down in Michigan’s Great Southwest! This January weekend brings a Chili Tour, St. Joe Winter Beer Fest, live music, trivia nights, Bloody Mary Bars and more! Read below to check out all the awesome winter activities.

 

FRIDAY, JANUARY 27

Warm up with us as the annual Chili Tour returns downtown St. Joe from 5:00p-8:00p! Participating locations or "Chili Stops" will play host as you have the opportunity to try their best recipes. Get started at the Welcome Center! It’s just $5 per map which includes a Chili Tour Map that doubles as your People's Choice Voting Ballot. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen.

Swing by the Krasl Art Center for their New Exhibition Preview Reception: 'The World After Us' from 6:00p-8:00p! Get a first look KAC's latest exhibit and enjoy an artist talk and walkabout with Nathaniel Stern.
